Project Description
This knife is one of my all time favorites. The steel is 1836 layers and includes nails from the Powell house where the Mexicans met after the Battle of San Jacinto. From there, they left and got stuck in the mud for a couple of weeks, leaving behind many artifacts. The spacer is cast from a grape shot, and the butt cap is a harness decoration, both from the “Sea of Mud.” The handle is live oak from the tree outside Gonzalez where Sam Houston rested on the first night of the Runaway Scrape. The coin is an 1836, and the pommel nut is another of the Powell nails. This knife won “Best Bowie” in the Knifemakers’ Guild awards at ICCE 2019 in Fort Worth.
